About

Appleseed is an organisation still under development, but the overall aims are making the world of information a better place by small manageable steps, by individuals or small groups.

There is a target to be a UK registered charity, as while there are non-UK charities with some similar aims, such as the Electronic Freedom Frontier there does not appear to be a UK group.

The formal aims of the organisation, membership, if any, and many other aspects are evolving, and suggestions are welcome, or any other Feedback (on its own page)

The name comes from the story of Johnny Appleseed, a pioneer nurseryman, who planted apple seeds, in nurseries, which grew over time into orchards. He also told stories, and worked with nature.

Advocacy

Solutions which come from a single vendor often have a large, well funded, sales team, and do usually need extra ways to let individuals, corporate or government decision makers know of their existence. Appleseed aims more at filling in the gaps where a problem could be addressed by following an existing standard in a product or protocol, rather than a solution from one particular vendor.
